- Bitcoin volatility was 39%, while MSTR had 94% volatility and STRC had 9% volatility.

Michael Saylor says Bitcoin investors can choose between direct BTC ownership, amplified exposure through Strategy, or income-focused preferred stock, with historical volatility ranging from 9% to 94%.
Michael Saylor has outlined three different ways investors can gain exposure to the Bitcoin economy, depending on whether they prioritize direct ownership, higher market exposure or income.
Bitcoin can serve very different investors. $BTC offers direct ownership, $MSTR amplified exposure, and $STRC income with less 30-day price volatility than every Mag 7 stock. Digital Capital is the foundation for Digital Equity and Digital Credit. https://t.co/Jvenbigni4

The Strategy Inc. (Nasdaq: MSTR) executive chairman compared Bitcoin (BTC), Strategy’s common stock (MSTR) and its STRC preferred stock in a post shared on X on Oct. 4.

The comparison showed historical volatility of 39% for BTC, 94% for MSTR and 9% for STRC. The figures highlight how differently the three assets have moved over the measured period.
Bitcoin, MSTR & STRC Offer Different Investment Profiles
Saylor described BTC as an option for investors seeking direct ownership of Bitcoin, while MSTR offers amplified exposure to the cryptocurrency through Strategy’s corporate structure.
STRC, meanwhile, is designed for investors seeking dollar-denominated dividend income with lower historical price volatility. “Bitcoin can serve very different investors. $BTC offers direct ownership, $MSTR amplified exposure, and $STRC income,” Saylor said.
The volatility figures represent historical price fluctuations rather than expected returns. Strategy calculates annualized volatility using daily price movements over the previous 30 trading days, while BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT) serves as the Bitcoin proxy in the comparison.
STRC’s 9% historical volatility was also below the volatility levels shown for the Magnificent Seven stocks, which ranged from about 21% for Apple to 47% for Meta.
MSTR Offers Amplified Bitcoin Exposure
Buying Bitcoin gives investors exposure to the cryptocurrency itself. MSTR shares, however, represent ownership in Strategy, a company that holds a large Bitcoin treasury.
That structure can produce greater sensitivity to Bitcoin’s price movements. During the period highlighted by Saylor, MSTR’s 94% volatility was roughly 2.4 times Bitcoin’s 39% reading.
This amplified exposure can work in both directions, potentially increasing gains as well as losses.
STRC Focuses On Income & Lower Volatility
STRC represents preferred stock rather than direct Bitcoin ownership. Strategy’s preferred shares have priority over common stock for dividends and liquidation proceeds, although debt holders rank ahead of preferred shareholders.
The strategy’s variable dividend structure currently carries a 12% annualized rate for October, with cash distributions made twice a month. At that rate, the annualized amount equals $12 per share if the rate remains unchanged.
However, dividend payments depend on the strategy having legally available funds and declaring the payments. STRC is also not collateralized by Strategy’s Bitcoin holdings.
