After obtaining regulatory authority to provide financial services in the UK, Coinbase has introduced commission-free trading of around 4,000 US equities for qualified UK consumers around-the-clock. With investments starting as £1 through fractional shares, the launch enables users to trade US stocks and cryptocurrency in a single app. Coinbase’s goal to become a “Everything Exchange” that offers many asset classes on a single platform is further advanced with this launch.

By offering 24-hour weekday access to US stock trading, Coinbase is going beyond cryptocurrencies in the UK. The cryptocurrency exchange has started offering commission-free trading in around 4,000 US-listed firms to qualified UK clients after receiving regulatory authority to offer investment services in the nation.

Using just one application, consumers can purchase, trade and manage both stocks and cryptocurrency using the new service. Fractional shares allow investors to begin investing with as little as £1, opening up US stocks to a larger spectrum of ordinary investors.

According to Coinbase, transactions may be paid quickly using either the USDC stablecoin or British pounds (GBP), allowing cryptocurrency users to invest without first turning their digital assets into cash.

Traditional stock markets are still constrained by set trading hours, but cryptocurrency exchanges are open 24/7. Coinbase wants to provide UK investors more freedom to trade US stocks during long market sessions by providing round-the-clock access.

The firm recently introduced savings and borrowing solutions in the UK. All of these products are part of Coinbase’s larger plan to transform from a cryptocurrency exchange into a full-service financial platform.

Additionally, the corporation thinks that the action may promote increased retail involvement in US stock markets. According to surveys, investors in the UK put less money into stocks than their American counterparts. That gap may be reduced with easier access via a well-known cryptocurrency platform.

Coinbase may now provide cryptocurrency, equities and commodities futures to institutional and high net worth investors in addition to regular customers thanks to its recently obtained permission.

Coinbase is putting itself in the middle of both marketplaces as the lines between traditional finance and digital assets continue to blur.
