- The Financial Market Authority (FMA) of Austria has granted Bybit Payments GmbH an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license.
- Bybit can now provide regulated payment and electronic money services throughout Europe via Bybit.eu thanks to the new license.
- Bybit EU GmbH, which functions independently within the EU’s MiCA regulatory framework, will continue to provide crypto services.
The Financial Market Authority (FMA) of Austria granted Bybit Payments GmbH an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license. The company can keep running its cryptocurrency operations under a distinct entity that adheres to the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulations, thanks to the new license, while offering regulated payment and electronic money services across Europe.
Bybit is a global cryptocurrency exchange that allows users to purchase, sell, trade, and invest in numerous digital assets. The clearance strengthens Bybit’s position as more cryptocurrency companies move to regulated operations in the European market.
Bybit Secures EMI License In Austria
Bybit announced that its Austrian subsidiary, Bybit Payments GmbH, has officially received an EMI license from Austria’s Financial Market Authority. With this approval, the company can provide regulated payment services through the Bybit.eu platform.
Crypto services will continue to operate under Bybit EU GmbH, which already holds authorization under the EU’s MiCA framework. Although both companies serve customers through the same platform, they will remain separate legal entities to meet European regulatory requirements.
Georg Harer, Managing Director of Bybit EU GmbH and Bybit Payments GmbH, said Europe is creating a strong regulatory environment where digital assets and financial services can grow together. He added that combining the EMI license with MiCA approval gives Bybit a solid foundation to expand its services across the region.
Separate Entities, One Customer Experience
Bybit explained that each company will focus on its own regulated activities. Bybit Payments GmbH will manage payment and electronic money services, while Bybit EU GmbH will continue offering crypto-related products.
According to Bernhard Krick, Managing Director of Bybit Payments GmbH, the new license enables the business to develop payment services that complement its cryptocurrency products. He pointed out that since each company operates under a different set of governmental permits, it is crucial to keep them apart.
More Payment Services Could Follow
Bybit said it may introduce person-to-person payments, payment cards, merchant payment solutions, open banking services, Strong Customer Authentication (SCA), and other electronic money features, subject to regulatory approval.
The announcement comes as Europe continues to roll out the MiCA framework. As more crypto firms seek regulatory approvals, Bybit’s latest license strengthens its long-term growth strategy in the region.
