Tether said that the 9.5% rise in actual gold reserves supporting Tether Gold (XAUt) in the second quarter was a result of rising demand for tokenized gold exposure.
According to statistics from TradingView, gold saw its worst quarterly performance since the second quarter of 2013, falling 14.1% over the period.
“When the price of gold is rising, Tether Gold holders are purchasing more than just XAUt. In Monday’s XAUt attestation report, Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, stated, “They are using times of market weakness to increase their ownership of physical gold through a product that is fully backed, transparent, portable, and accessible onchain.”
