YouTube has begun allowing U.S. creators to receive payouts in PayPal’s PYUSD stablecoin, Fortune reported Thursday. May Zabaneh, PayPal’s head of crypto, said the feature is now live and that YouTube will not have to interact with crypto itself due to PayPal’s backend systems.
YouTube has used PayPal for creator payments for years, but enabling PYUSD payouts marks one of its most direct integrations with digital assets. For the platform’s massive creator economy, the option could accelerate mainstream stablecoin adoption—especially as YouTube gradually warms to crypto after years of strict moderation on related content.
The broader stablecoin sector has grown rapidly as businesses, institutions and governments explore blockchain-based payment rails. PYUSD, launched in mid-2023, has soared from around $500 million to $3.9 billion in market cap this year, according to CoinGecko.
The integration signals increasing alignment between major Web2 platforms and digital asset infrastructure.
