In an unexpected change of events, Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin has openly criticised Elon Musk and the rising tide of anti-European sentiment on X. Buterin, who often stays out of political disputes, spoke out after witnessing what he described as “unhinged” attacks on Europe proliferating on the platform.

His remarks coincide with a fierce response against X, which was fined 120 million euros by the European Commission for improperly moderating offensive content.
Buterin claimed that although Europe has its own problems, the “apocalyptic attitude” he observes on X is not accurate. He cautioned that the recent tone on the site seems organised and severe, particularly in light of the viral posts advocating for the dissolution of the EU.
Alexander Dugin, a Russian philosopher, recently shared a post that received 1.3 million views, adding gasoline to the expanding online fire.
After Musk attacked European authorities and referred to them as “woke stasi commisars” in response to the EU penalties, the conflict escalated. He even intensified his growing disagreement with Brussels by proposing the dissolution of the European Union.
Musk’s forceful posture, according to his detractors, has caused X to go even more to the political right, elevating negative voices while stifling others.
Musk was openly challenged by Buterin, who claimed that utilising X as a “death star laser for coordinated hate sessions” after making it a worldwide symbol of free speech undermines the concept of free speech itself.
His caution draws attention to serious worries about how online platforms influence political sentiment throughout the world in the tech and cryptocurrency communities.
