Vietnam Seeks AI Based Filter Of ‘Toxic’ Content
According to state media sources, Vietnam has directed social media sites that operate across borders to adopt artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms capable of automatically recognising and removing “toxic” content. This measure adds to Vietnam’s already stringent laws governing social media firms.
Vietnam has made numerous requests to Meta’s Facebook, Google’s YouTube, and TikTok, pushing them to work with authorities to remove content deemed “toxic.” This includes offensive content, incorrect information, and anti-state content.
During the information ministry’s mid-year assessment event, which was exclusively open to selected newspapers, Vietnam Television (VTV), a state-run broadcaster, said that this is the first time Vietnam has officially issued such an order.
The report did not provide specific information regarding the timeline and implementation process for cross-border platforms to comply with the new requirement.
