Pi Network has told its node operators to finish a key upgrade to Protocol 23 by May 15, warning that those who don’t comply could lose access to the mainnet.
This update is part of ongoing work to keep the network stable as it grows. With over 421,000 active nodes and more than 10 billion tokens moved to mainnet, the system is scaling up quickly.
Unlike traditional blockchains like Bitcoin that use energy-heavy mining, Pi Network uses a consensus model based on trust. Nodes check transactions in smaller groups called quorum slices, which makes the process more efficient.
This upgrade might take longer than past updates, so the team suggests starting early. Operators should back up their data to avoid last-minute problems.
One of Pi’s main strengths is how easy it is to access. Users can run nodes on regular computers, making it easier for more people to join.
The network is adding more uses, with developers looking into things like decentralized AI services. As more people join, keeping the infrastructure reliable will be crucial.
