Mińsk Mazowiecki Launches MinsCoin Stablecoin
Mińsk Mazowiecki, Poland, launched MinsCoin, a stablecoin spendable at local businesses. The stablecoin is part of UrbanChange, a platform for launching USDC-backed stablecoins for use in local cities. UrbanChange designed the token to serve as “shopper-friendly money” and it will circulate within Mińsk Mazowiecki.
The city’s mayor, Marcin Jakubowski, emphasized the importance of UrbanChange in engaging the community and achieving sustainability, health and wellbeing, and social activism goals.
Colu Technologies, an Israel-based partner, is one of UrbanChange’s key partners. MinsCoin is UrbanChange’s first launch in Europe, with plans to aid the launch of coins in more cities. Communities interested in launching one of its LocalCoins can deposit 5,000 UTCs, which is the token’s governance token, into a community vault.
Community members can earn by participating in projects or activities with a positive social or economic impact, potentially incentivizing healthier lifestyles, social activism, or public transport use.
MinsCoin’s launch not only enables residents to interact with local whitelisted businesses and projects but also showcases how technology can steer social interactions, economic participation, and solidarity within communities.
