IRS Turns To Private-Sector Crypto Experts To Boost Enforcement
The US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has appointed Sulolit ‘Raj’ Mukherjee and Seth Wilks to enforce the growing cryptocurrency industry.
The former Global Head of Tax at JD and CPA have extensive experience in crypto asset tax policy. IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel emphasized the importance of intensifying enforcement in this area for taxpayers and the nation.
The hiring will help the IRS understand the sector, design systems for reporting cryptocurrency and related transactions, and improve employee capacity and access to tools in the rapidly evolving global landscape.
The IRS launched ‘Operation Hidden Treasure’ in 2022 to crack down on individuals who do not report their crypto income on their tax returns.
