Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, Startup Form Body To Regulate AI Development
Four of the most powerful artificial intelligence companies have announced the formation of an industry body to oversee the safe development of the most advanced models.
The Frontier Model Forum was founded by OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, Anthropic, Microsoft, and Google, the owner of DeepMind in the United Kingdom.
The group stated that it would concentrate on the “safe and responsible” development of frontier AI models, referring to AI technology that is more advanced than the examples currently available.
The Frontier Model Forum aims to promote AI safety research, develop standards for evaluating models, encourage responsible deployment, discuss trust and safety risks, and develop positive uses for AI. Membership is open to organizations developing frontier models, which are large-scale machine-learning models that exceed current capabilities. The group’s members are part of a White House meeting with Joe Biden, which led to new AI safeguards, including watermarking content to detect misleading material and allowing independent experts to test AI models.
