Germany may have left billions on the table in its crackdown on Movie2K, a piracy site tied to massive Bitcoin holdings. Crypto intelligence platform Arkham reported that 45,060 BTC—worth nearly $5 billion—remains in wallets linked to the case.
Earlier this year, German police seized almost 50,000 BTC from Movie2K and later sold them under laws requiring swift liquidation of volatile assets. Unfortunately, the sale occurred just before Bitcoin’s price nearly doubled, drawing criticism that the state missed billions in gains.
Arkham’s analysis shows the additional 45,000 BTC, split across 100 wallets, has not moved since 2019. The firm said these holdings appear to remain under the control of Movie2K operators.
German authorities have not addressed Arkham’s findings, raising questions over whether the stash will be recovered. If pursued, it could mark one of the largest Bitcoin seizures in history, potentially influencing crypto markets when liquidated.
