DeFi Surges To $52 bn TVL
Decentralized finance protocols have reached an annual high of $52 billion in total value locked, marking a remarkable resurgence amidst the turbulent history of the industry.
DeFi, specifically TVL, has seen a 36% increase in dollar terms since 2023, from $38 billion to its annual high of $52 billion.
However, asset price volatility, particularly the surge in the value of major cryptocurrencies like bitcoin and ether and rising investment inflows, can impact the TVL metric’s worth.
MakerDAO, a specialty within DeFi, saw a notable increase in real-world assets (RWAs) in 2023, with MakerDAO incorporating $2.5 billion in RWA collateral, mostly U.S. Treasury bills, to underpin its Dai stablecoin.
