Crypto Scams Swipe $43.6 mn In Gaming World In 2022: Report
Cryptocurrency holders lost over $43.6 million to scams on gaming and metaverse platforms in 2022, according to a report by Smart Betting Guide and the REKT database. The data suggests that crypto users lost $1.7 billion to various scams last year.
Blockchains like Binance and Arbitrum were more vulnerable, with Binance users losing $1.5 million and Arbitrum users losing $552,652. The scams likely included phishing attempts, fake crypto exchanges, fraudulent NFT projects, and hacking of gaming platforms. Stablecoins saw the lowest losses at $8 million in 2023. February was one of the worst months for crypto scams, with average losses of $623 million.
