Cricket World Cup To Feature Web3 Fan App
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has partnered with Near Foundation to develop a blockchain-powered Web3 fan engagement app for the 2023 Cricket World Cup in India. The app aims to reach hundreds of millions of fans over six weeks, promoting engagement before, during, and after matches. The partnership was confirmed by ICC head of digital Finn Bradshaw and Near CEO Chris Donovan.
The ICC introduced FanCraze in 2022, a nonfungible token (NFT) platform that allows fans to own historic moments from ICC tournaments. The app allows prediction games, strategy selections, and game outcomes. Fans earn points, which count towards leaderboards and rewards during the competition.
