Chinese Satellite Uses Blockchain Technology

A Chinese satellite has become the world’s first to orbit a blockchain imaging and screening system.

According to Red Star News, the Tai’an Star Era 16 was successfully launched into orbit from the China Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre on July 22. The satellite, developed by NationStar Aerospace Technology Co., includes a visual blockchain on-orbit certificate storage system called ‘ADAChain,’ which NationStar created in-house.

The ADAChain satellite aims to obtain rich spectral information for precision agriculture, water resources management, mineral resource investigation, environmental monitoring, and emergency safety. Its mission includes on-orbit visual blockchain multi-signature authentication, video visual broadcasting, and on-orbit visual remote sensing data storage certificate confirmation. Blockchain technology will help achieve high spatial, spectral, and temporal resolution in satellite imaging.
