UMG and Centaurify previously dropped 3,333 trophies, and the free items on hand, according to the companies, were “completely minted out in a few hours.” Meanwhile, the trophies in question are said to grant holders “presale rights to all future artist drops,” among other benefits.
According to the companies involved, some of these virtual items are linked to contests, music releases, exclusive communities, and other benefits, with the appearance of the collectibles changing in tandem with the commercial showing of the songs to which they are linked.
A track with one million total streams will coincide with an “orbit” collectible, for instance, shifting to “lunar” at 10 million streams, to “solar” at 50 million streams, and so forth until changing to “supernova” at 500 million streams.
