Bitcoin Whale, Ethereum ICO Member Deposit $250 mn
Over the last 24 hours, two distinct whales, each holding over $9 million in cryptocurrency, have shifted their holdings to exchanges.
One whale had an address that had participated in Ethereum’s ICO in 2014 and hadn’t transferred his funds since.
On Tuesday, an Ethereum ICO participant transferred 61,216 ETH worth $116 million to the crypto exchange Kraken, according to the Twitter blockchain tracker Lookonchain.
The address had no further notable action, according to Etherscan, after receiving its entire ETH deposit from the Ethereum Genesis address over 2,911 days ago. At the time, ETH was only worth $0.31.
The Genesis address is commonly referred to be a “Black hole” because any cryptocurrency deposited there cannot be recovered, although it is still one of the richer Ethereum addresses on the network, holding 11,743 ETH.
Before depositing his whole ETH hoard into the exchange, the ICO participant seemed to make a test transaction worth 0.5 ETH.
The next day, Lookonchain announced that a separate Bitcoin whale had transferred $4,451 BTC to Binance, valued an additional $133 million.
According to on-chain statistics, the government transferred a comparable size batch of BTC out of its wallet this month, implying another sale.
