Bitcoin Payment Option ‘Is Coming’
Prime Minister Daniel Risch stated in an interview with the German business daily Handelsblatt that Liechtenstein intends to accept Bitcoin (BTC) as payment for public services.
“A payment option with Bitcoin is coming,” said Risch, who also serves as Liechtenstein’s finance minister.
Although there is no set timeline for the deployment of this payment option, Risch stated that the objective is to take Bitcoin deposits and promptly swap them into the Swiss franc, Liechtenstein’s official currency.
The Swiss municipalities of Zug and Lugano have taken a similar approach, accepting Bitcoin for the payment of some taxes and public services.
Risch is also said to be interested in investing state funds in Bitcoin in the future.
