Argentina Sees First Bitcoin Rental Agreement Signed
Argentina’s newly elected president, Javier Milei, has introduced the country’s first rental agreement denominated in Bitcoin. The landlord of an apartment in Rosario, Santa Fe province, has signed a rental agreement requiring payment in Bitcoin. The tenant must pay 100 USDT to finance company Fiwind each month, who then convert the proceeds into Bitcoin and forward the payment to the landlord. Fiwind’s facilitation of this deal is at “no cost.”
The current spot Bitcoin price converts to 0.00234 BTC, highlighting the difficulties of accepting payment in cryptocurrency when goods and services are priced in fiat.
This landmark agreement was made possible by a wave of deregulation enacted by President Milei, who intends to tackle the country’s ailing economy using a radical approach to policy.
