AI To Identify Delhi Roads In Need Of Repair
The Public Works Department (PWD) plans to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) services to assess its roads, footpaths, and drainage systems, identifying those in need of repair and reconstruction.
The department has already used AI technology to monitor and maintain 41 km of roads redeveloped along European standards under the streetscaping project.
The new plan extends this to the west division, which has selected stretches under the Western roads region for AI surveying for three years.
The key objective is to capitalize on advanced AI technology to conduct a comprehensive and efficient survey, eliminating the need for traditional methods and ensuring heightened accuracy with reduced time requirements.
An AI vehicle equipped with an AI algorithm-based camera will carry out the survey, excluding main carriageway, to identify damage, missing tiles, stolen street furniture, missing drain covers, posters, desilting, or debris. Tenders have been floated for an agency to conduct the AI-based survey, which will conduct 42 surveys over 42 months.
