AI improving life, but lack ethics
President Droupadi Murmu emphasized the importance of addressing ethical dilemmas related to AI use, stating that it is rapidly becoming a crucial tool in improving healthcare, education, agriculture, and infrastructure.
Speaking at the second convocation ceremony of the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Murmu highlighted India’s 5Ds – demand, demography, democracy, desire, and dream – to become a developed nation by 2047.
She mentioned the “National AI Strategy” published in 2018 and the Uttar Pradesh government’s efforts to develop major cities as AI and IT hubs. However, she emphasized the need to address issues such as automation-induced unemployment, economic inequality, and human biases in AI outcomes.
