Coinbase is deepening its institutional push by completing what it now describes as a full-service crypto prime brokerage platform—bringing Wall Street-style infrastructure into digital assets.
The company’s institutional stack now includes trading, custody, financing, derivatives, cross-margining, and staking, giving hedge funds and asset managers access to an integrated one-stop platform.
Coinbase says it currently safeguards more than $350 billion in assets under custody, processes roughly $236 billion in quarterly trading volume, and acts as custodian for over 80% of US-listed Bitcoin and Ether ETF assets.
This marks a major shift in crypto market structure, where institutions are increasingly demanding regulated, large-scale infrastructure similar to traditional finance.
As banks weigh partnerships rather than direct competition, Coinbase is positioning itself as a foundational layer for institutional capital entering digital asset markets at scale.
