NASA To Prove Its Moon Landing Using Blockchain

In February 2024, a payload comprising “data cubes” will be sent to the Moon by the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in collaboration with the Isle of Man and Florida-based computing business Lonestar. Blockchain technology will be used to verify the data that has been encrypted in these cubes back on Earth.

When NASA launches its second crewed mission, Artemis 3, in 2025, assuming everything goes according to plan, the same blockchain technology will authenticate once and for all and immutably that humans have landed on the Moon.

NASA’s Artemis mission is set to launch Artemis 2 in November 2024, with four astronauts leaving Earth, orbiting the Moon, and returning to Earth. This is the final test run before humans touch down on the Moon again with Artemis 3. Lonestar and the Isle of Man are collaborating to develop long-term lunar storage systems that rely on solar power and require no additional infrastructure. This is part of the scientific missions taking place during Artemis voyages.
