Zuckerberg, Altman Offer Support For AI Regulation
Mark Zuckerberg and Sam Altman, tech giants, have expressed support for government oversight of artificial intelligence after discussions with European Commission Thierry Breton. They agreed on the EU’s risk-based approach and measures like watermarking, which are currently in final negotiations.
OpenAI CEO Altman supports the EU’s AI Pact, expressing gratitude for the European institution’s foresight in taking AI seriously. Meta’s president of global affairs, Nick Clegg, supports the AI Pact’s objectives and emphasizes the importance of open AI work and collaboration across industry, governments, and civil society.
A technology expert, Breton visited Meta and found Facebook and Instagram well-prepared to meet Europe’s strict content moderation rules. Meta will submit to a stress test next month.
Breton urges Twitter to allocate more resources to addressing sensitive content for EU regulation of AI before the August deadline.
