Web3 Diaries-North Korean Hackers Have Stolen $200 mn So Far This Year
According to a research published on Friday by blockchain intelligence company TRM Labs, hackers connected to North Korea have stolen more than $200 million in cryptocurrencies in 2023, accounting for more than 20% of all crypto that was taken in that year. The haul is a portion of the $2 billion in cybercrime proceeds during the previous five years.
According to TRM Labs, last year was the most prosperous year for hackers to date, with over $800 million in bitcoin stolen, even though it appears to be another lucrative year for cybercriminals. This was accomplished by attacking cross-chain bridges using DeFi protocols in three significant assaults, including the $625 million that was taken from the Ronin Bridge in March of that year.
