Web3 Diaries-Fidelity Refiles For Spot BTC ETF

In a recent development reported by CoinDesk, Fidelity, a leading asset management firm, is once again making an attempt to launch a spot Bitcoin ETF, the Wise Origin Bitcoin Trust. Interestingly, the move follows a similar filing by BlackRock’s iShares unit, which underlines the tectonic shift under progress in the financial landscape.

As per CoinDesk’s report, Fidelity’s first attempt to launch the Wise Origin Bitcoin Trust in 2021 was thwarted by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), leading to its rejection in 2022. However, the recent filing by BlackRock seems to have sparked a renewed interest in a spot Bitcoin ETF, with other fund companies such as Invesco and WisdomTree joining the race.

Germany’s BaFin Rejects Binance License Request

German financial regulator BaFin has rejected Binance’s request for a crypto custody license, dealing a severe blow to the company’s expansion plan in Germany, according to a local crypto publication.

Jonas Jünger, who took over as the head of Binance in Germany a few months ago, had a primary mandate to secure a license from BaFin. However, the German financial regulator has decided against granting the exchange a crypto custody license, a decision that Binance has reportedly been made aware of.

Binance, while not sharing specific details of its discussions with regulators, confirmed that they are actively working to meet BaFin’s requirements. Despite the setback, the company remains confident in its team and measures to continue its dialogue with German regulators.

Lacoste Grows Its NFT Ecosystem With New Prizes

Lacoste, a French fashion brand, has decided to expand its NFT ecosystem by introducing a rewards and co-creation feature for its UNDW3 community.

In June 2022, Lacoste released its UNDW3 collection of 11,212 profile picture (PFP) NFTs.

Lacoste teased plans for a Web3 expansion by offering “Genesis Passes” to its community.

The owner of the NFTs were able to gain access to limited edition merchandise and IRL community events.

At the time each NFT in the collection minted for 0.08 ETH or about $95. Crocodile themed PFPs were airdropped to holders in September.
