Ubisoft Reveals Next Blockchain Game
Ubisoft was one of the first large traditional game publishers to experiment with blockchain technology years ago, and despite gamer reaction, the creator of Assassin’s Creed and Just Dance has continued to explore the field. The studio has now disclosed the title of their forthcoming Web3 game.
Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles is an original PC game touted as a player-versus-player (PvP) tactical role-playing game (RPG) experience that was surreptitiously revealed late last week.
Champions Tactics will be Ubisoft’s first game built on Oasys, a gaming-focused blockchain network that has drawn the attention of other gaming titans such as Square Enix, Sega, and Bandai Namco. DoubleJump.Tokyo stated last fall that it is developing an Oasys game based on Sega’s Japanese Sangokushi Taisen historical card game IP.
The game will be distributed on PC as a separate desktop application, rather than as a web-based game, and the official website teases a “free drop at launch” to emable gameplay. This implies that, while Champions Tactics may require an NFT or token to play, Ubisoft will provide them for free at first.
