The Sui blockchain is back up and running after a six-hour disruption that brought transactions on the network to a halt. The Sui Foundation said the outage was caused by a consensus-related issue, which has now been fixed.
Developers began looking into the problem shortly before 3 pm UTC and managed to restore the network to full operation in just under six hours. During the downtime, transactions were unable to go through, leaving more than $1 billion worth of assets temporarily locked on the blockchain.
The incident marks the second major outage for Sui since it launched in 2023, renewing concerns around the stability of high-speed blockchain networks. While services have been restored, the foundation has yet to share a detailed technical explanation of what triggered the disruption.
