In order to provide much-needed legislative clarification to the digital asset industry, the U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee has set January 27 for the markup of its crypto market structure bill, also referred to as the clarification Act.
The markup will occur six days after the bill’s text is made public on January 21, according to the committee that is in charge of the Commodities Futures Trading Commission. Chairman John Boozman claims that the timetable allows lawmakers and interested stakeholders sufficient time to conduct in-depth analysis.
Senators can debate the bill’s provisions, make changes and finish it during a markup session before determining whether to send it to the entire Senate. The bill must pass the House before it can be forwarded to President Donald Trump, even if it is approved.
The bill proposes shared oversight between the CFTC and the SEC. While momentum is building, unresolved issues remain around stablecoin yields and decentralized finance, keeping lawmakers cautiously optimistic.
