Saudi Arabia Taps China To Salvage Neom Metaverse
Saudi Arabia’s Neom megacity, a futuristic city with two mirror-encased skyscrapers, has been extended to China to attract investors amid speculation about its scope. The exhibition in Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong provided an immersive experience for attendees, who explored the futuristic city and Oxagon, which is expected to redefine the traditional industrial model.
The exhibition also included a chance to see Neom’s mountain resort, Tojena, and Sindalah, a luxury island in the Red Sea. Environmental group Friends of the Earth chair Plato Yin described The Line as feeling like being caged inside, although it may be very comfortable. Neom’s executive director Tarek Qaddumi explained that the project aims to balance nature conservation, human livability, and economic prosperity. The project includes a 650-meter-long “cantilever” extending into the Gulf of Aqaba and a hidden marina, ongoing construction of tunnels, and an airport expected to welcome 100 million passengers a year.
