Sam Altman’s Worldcoin Raises $115 mn
Worldcoin’s creator, Tools for Humanity, today revealed that it has raised s$115 million in series C funding, led by Blockchain Capital. The money will be used for a number of initiatives, including a replacement for the frequently mocked CAPTCHA test.
Civic, a company that launched a suite of tools to prevent bots from unfairly exploiting NFT drops by limiting the amount of wallets an account may use, is one of the companies fighting the use of bots to swindle and cheat.
Bogart did not disclose the amount Blockchain Capital contributed to the round, although a16z crypto, Bain Capital Crypto, and Distributed Global all participated in the fundraising. According to Tools for Humanity, the money will also be used for research and development, as well as the expansion of the Worldcoin initiative and World App.
Tools for Humanity, situated in San Francisco, California, has a burgeoning staff that includes former workers from the Electric Coin Company, Revolut, Uber, Block, Twitter, and Apple.
Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI and co-founder of Worldcoin, made the news of the raise a week after the Financial Times reported that he was in “advanced talks” over a fresh financing round with an initial aim of $100 million.
