Sam Altman May Return As OpenAI CEO
OpenAI’s board members are in discussions with Sam Altman, who was fired as CEO, according to sources. OpenAI investors are pushing the company board to reverse the decision to sack Altman, and some investors are also in talks with Microsoft Corp., the largest shareholder of OpenAI.
Microsoft has invested billions in OpenAI and has incorporated its technology into its offerings, including Bing. Microsoft has expressed support for interim OpenAI CEO Mira Murati, but sources claim he was blindsided by the board’s decision and has been in touch with Altman since his firing. A group of OpenAI staff has threatened to quit if the entire board doesn’t resign and reinstate Altman as CEO. Some reports suggest Altman is planning to launch his own venture if talks with OpenAI fail.
