Nvidia Pursues $30 bn Custom Chip Opportunity
Nvidia is establishing a new business unit to design bespoke AI chips for cloud computing firms and other companies, including advanced artificial intelligence (AI) processors.
The company, which controls about 80% of the high-end AI chip market, aims to capture a portion of the market and protect itself from the growing number of companies pursuing alternatives to its products.
Nvidia’s customers, including OpenAI, Microsoft, Alphabet, and Meta Platforms, are racing to acquire the dwindling supply of its H100 and A100 chips to compete in the generative AI sector.
Nvidia is now attempting to help these companies develop custom AI chips that have flowed to rival firms such as Broadcom and Marvell Technology.
