NFT-Funded Film Lands Global Sales Deal
“The Quiet Maid,” a social satire film by Spanish filmmaker Miguel Faus, has secured a global sales deal. The film, originally titled “Calladita,” follows a Colombian maid’s struggles as she works for a wealthy Spanish family in Catalonia. The film, based on a short film by Faus, was picked up by streaming service Max after a festival stint. The deal was announced at an industry conference in Madrid.
Spanish Film Director Miguel Faus said Web3 and blockchain can help creators overcome traditional movie industry challenges, particularly in funding. He leveraged his 15-minute film to sell NFT passes to raise $750,000 for a feature-length version. The NFTs provided behind-the-scenes access to the production and control through a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO). This is not the 1st time faus experimented with Web3..In January, “Ocean’s Eleven” director Steven Soderbergh awarded Faus $100,000 from an on-chain fund established with Decentralized Pictures to support promising filmmakers in adopting non-traditional film financing methods.
