NASA To Use Blockchain Technology

By Shubham Joshi

Back in 1969, the United State succeeded in sending a man on the moon. Astronaut Neil Armstrong – achieved a feet by being the first to step on the Moon said…..”that’s one small step for man, one giant leap for the mankind”….

Well, the American boasted this achievement all the while, but few believed it to be a fake and also termed it to be staged event…..

National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the United States space agency has decided to prove the critics wrong and is planning to use the latest technology….the blockchain to shut the critics off…..

The space agency has collaborated with a computing startup based in Florida – Lonestar, and the Isle of Man to send a payload to the Moon containing “data cubes’’ in February 2024.

Interestingly, the trio – NASA, Lonestar and the Isle of Man – are collaborating together in order to develop long-term solar-powered lunar storage systems that do not need any additional infrastructure.

According to a report from the BBC’s Science Focus, the test will include the production of digital stamps also known as “digital franking”, which will be stored in the form of data cubes on the Moon. After the installation of the cubes. The data will be validated using blockchain technology assuring its accuracy and integrity when it is returned to Earth.

To begin with, the scientists will use Isle of Man postage stamps to gauge the storage capacity. In February of 2024, a lunar data cube will be sent to Moon. It will be a black rectangle, powered by solar energy and will store a terabyte of data on it.

Meanwhile, the launch of ‘Artemis 2’ in November 2024 will begin the second part of NASA’s Artemis mission, which is the US lunar project. Artemis 2 is intended to be the last test run before the U.S. government sends people back to the Moon’s surface with Artemis 3.

Nevertheless, the same blockchain technology will be verified once and for all and irrevocably that humans have touched down on the Moon when NASA launches Artemis 3, its second crewed mission, in 2025.
