Japan’s Metaplanet Inc. has strengthened its position as one of the most prominent corporate Bitcoin holders, purchasing 518 BTC for approximately $61.4 million at an average price of $118,519 per coin. This latest acquisition on August 12 brings the company’s total Bitcoin reserves to 18,113 BTC, acquired for about $1.85 billion at an average of $101,911 each.
In yen terms, the transaction was worth 9.086 billion, with an average per-Bitcoin cost of 17,540,861 yen. The move follows a major July buy of 463 BTC for $53.7 million. Metaplanet’s holdings now rival those of other corporate giants like Strategy, which recently disclosed adding 155 BTC for $18 million.
Analysts suggest these aggressive acquisitions reflect increasing institutional interest in Bitcoin, particularly among firms adopting a “Bitcoin standard” for treasury reserves.
The company’s approach emphasizes long-term accumulation regardless of short-term price moves, a strategy that has delivered a 459.2% year-to-date Bitcoin yield for its earlier purchases.
