Ghana has formally legalized cryptocurrency trading following the passage of the Virtual Asset Service Providers Bill, 2025. Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama confirmed that the new law establishes a comprehensive regulatory framework to oversee crypto-related activities nationwide.
The legislation aims to eliminate long-standing uncertainty surrounding digital asset transactions while enhancing consumer protection and regulatory oversight. Authorities will now supervise exchanges, wallet providers, and other virtual asset service operators.
Dr. Asiama noted that the move positions Ghana to manage risks associated with cryptocurrencies without stifling innovation. The law is expected to encourage responsible adoption while integrating digital assets into the country’s financial system.
