FIFA Launches NFT Collection
FIFA, the governing body of international soccer competitions, has announced the launch of a non-fungible token (NFT) collection in collaboration with blockchain firm Modex.
The launch of FIFA’s NFT collection will coincide with the upcoming 2023 Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia.
Set to commence in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on December 12, the Club World Cup unites seven of the globe’s top football teams.
Manchester City will be accompanied by clubs representing various major football regions, including Fluminense (Brazil) and Auckland City (New Zealand).
The group of seven is rounded out by Japan’s Urawa Reds, León (Mexico), Al Ahly (Egypt), and the local club Al Ittihad.
The first collection, which will appear on December 15, will include 100 NFTs, according to the announcement.
Getting tickets to the FIFA World Cup 2026 final will be one of the collection’s highlights for fans.
Throughout the month, 900 more digital collectibles will also be made available on OpenSea and the Polygon network.
These souvenirs will feature cherished items in digital form together with iconic moments from the ongoing competition.
The NFTs may be obtained using FIFA+ Collect, the company’s own platform that was introduced in September 2022 and is powered by Algorand.
Eleven NFT drops have been held on the FIFA+ Collect platform since its launch, minting 909,255 digital collectibles and drawing 16,448 holders. $2.4 million in trade volume has been created by the platform in both main and secondary NFT marketplaces.
The partnership between Modex and FIFA aims to showcase the advantages of Web3 technology, emphasizing its potential to enhance engagement and broaden fan participation opportunities.
