Chinese Tech Minister To Attend AI Summit in UK
China is sending Vice Minister of Science and Technology Wu Zhaohui to a global summit on artificial intelligence in Britain.
The summit will bring together representatives of AI companies, political leaders, and experts to discuss potential risks posed by the technology and build an international consensus on its safe development.
China accepted Britain’s invitation to attend the summit, following Britain’s top diplomat James Cleverly’s first trip to Beijing in five years.
The relationship between Britain and China has weakened since the relationship sunk to its lowest point under former Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Recent visits by senior British civil servants and former officials to China have increased, with former Prime Minister Tony Blair visiting Beijing earlier this month and meeting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Wu will be joined by representatives from the Chinese foreign ministry, companies, and academic bodies, including Alibaba and Tencent.
