Cambridge University Deploy AI Supercomputer
Dell, Intel, and the University of Cambridge have announced the deployment of the Dawn Phase 1 supercomputer, the fastest of its kind in the UK.
This groundbreaking AI supercomputer combines AI and high-performance computing technologies, demonstrating the potential to tackle global challenges.
Dawn Phase 1 is the cornerstone of the UK AI Research Resource (AIRR), demonstrating the nation’s commitment to exploring innovative systems and architectures.
The supercomputer brings the UK closer to achieving the exascale computing threshold, which is equivalent to a quintillion floating point operations per second. Operational at the Cambridge Open Zettascale Lab, Dawn uses Dell PowerEdge XE9640 servers for the Intel Data Center GPU Max Series accelerator. The system’s capabilities extend across various domains, including healthcare, engineering, green fusion energy, climate modelling, cosmology, and high-energy physics.
