Coinbase’s Chief Legal Officer, Paul Grewal, met with Karnataka’s IT Minister Priyank Kharge to explore ways the crypto firm can support blockchain development in the Indian state.
Grewal said Coinbase aims to contribute by providing developer tools, participating in cybersecurity efforts, and launching training and capacity-building programs. Kharge echoed the sentiment, highlighting Coinbase’s potential to simplify blockchain development and foster onchain innovation.
The discussion also touched on possible incubation support, future hackathons, and broader collaboration between Coinbase and the Karnataka government to promote blockchain adoption in governance and digital infrastructure.
Grewal posted about the meeting on X, emphasizing India’s role in building a blockchain-powered future.
Coinbase has been pushing to expand its footprint in India. In March 2025, it announced efforts to help governments understand and adopt cryptocurrency technologies. Karnataka, a long-time proponent of tech innovation, first acknowledged blockchain back in 2017 with educational seminars — and is now looking to go deeper into implementation.
