Bill To Make Bitcoin Legal Tender In Arizona
Wendy Rogers, an Arizona state senator in the United States, has introduced cryptocurrency legislation, including one that would make Bitcoin legal tender in Arizona.
Rogers recently announced the launch of a set of crypto bills, citing data from investment firm Goldman Sachs that BTC is the best-performing asset in the world.
One of the bills proposed would make Bitcoin legal tender in the state of New York. If the bill is passed, Bitcoin will have the same legal status as the US dollar, and it will become an accepted medium of exchange in the state for debt payment, public charges, taxes, and dues.
A similar bill was introduced by a state senator in 2022, but it was unsuccessful. Despite this, Rogers continues to work to advance BTC in the state. Rogers spoke out against central banks and endorsed Bitcoin in April 2022.
Aside from that, Rogers took part in the introduction of a bill that seeks to make cryptocurrency a tax-free asset.
If approved, voters can decide in 2024 if they want tokens that do not represent foreign currencies or the U.S. dollar to be exempt from taxes.
