AI-Generated Drake Song Up For Grammy Nomination
According to a Sept. 5 report, a popular track by the unidentified producer “Ghostwriter” that features an artificial intelligence (AI)-generated vocal track of the rapper Drake has been submitted for a Grammy award.
The Ghostwriter group has reportedly submitted the song “Heart on My Sleeve” for consideration as a nominee for the Grammy Award for Best Rap Song and Song of the Year to the Recording Academy, according to a representative.
The Grammys have updated its award policy for 2023, allowing music with AI-generated components to be nominated for awards in categories for a human-created portion of the song, with the songwriter being credited in both categories. The Ghostwriter representative confirmed that the songwriter is a human.
The Grammys CEO, Harvey Mason Jr., confirmed that music with AI elements is “absolutely eligible” for a nomination, as long as it was written by a human. The Academy also considers whether the song was commercially available, as part of Grammy rules. However, “Heart on My Sleeve” was removed from major streaming services, despite industry experts stating its use of AI fell into a “legal gray area.”
