AI Threat Unites Hollywood Actors, Screenwriters
Tens of thousands of Hollywood actors and writers will go on strike at midnight Thursday, effectively halting the enormous film and television industry for the first time in 63 years.
SAG-AFTRA represents over 160,000 performers, ranging from A-list stars like Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence, and Glenn Close to day players who play minor roles on television shows.
The Screen Actors Guild called a strike after last-ditch talks with studios failed to reach an agreement on their demands regarding declining pay and the threat presented by artificial intelligence.
Following the formal start of the strike, actors will join writers on picket lines in the first Hollywood double strike since 1960.
