AI Adoption by Indian Corp. A Strategic Necessity
The Brij Disa Centre for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at IIM Ahmedabad and Boston Consulting Group’s Digital Transformation unit released a report analyzing Indian businesses’ AI-readiness, highlighting the strategic necessity of AI in India.
The report analyzes 130 companies in the Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI), Consumer Goods, and Industrial Goods sectors, focusing on their AI maturity. The research team conducted interviews and surveys with CXOs to measure a company’s ability to leverage AI for strategic objectives and financial and operational performance. Only a few Indian BFSI companies, mainly banks and new-age NBFCs, show high AI maturity, comparable to global frontrunners. Companies based on AI maturity can be categorized into Leaders, Steady Followers, Leapfroggers, and Laggards. Only 11% of companies are considered Leaders in AI maturity, while 9% are Leapfroggers who started their AI journey late.
