49% Of Teachers Face AI’s Impact: Report
A report by Oxford University Press reveals that 49% of teachers feel unprepared for the impact of AI and call for more support to prepare students for an AI-enabled future. The report emphasizes the need for government support to help schools harness AI’s potential and recommends school leaders and education business leaders to encourage AI use and prioritize high-quality educational resources. Failure to adapt to AI could lead to inequalities in implementation and a risk of students not acquiring essential cognitive skills, affecting learning outcomes.
OUP CEO Nigel Portwood expresses optimism about AI’s potential positive impact on education, but warns that without clear guidance or consideration of potential risks, the standards of teaching and learning could be affected during the experimental phase. The report, based on data from OUP’s global teacher network, includes data from various countries.
The Office of the United Nations (OUP) has found that 88% of teachers would benefit from centralized AI insights and research. However, only 35% of UK teachers and 38% worldwide use machine learning-driven tools themselves. The OUP calls for governments to include education in discussions about AI’s future and ensure safe use for teaching and learning.
